Charleston Port agency looks to TradePort.
A company that helps retailers move their products from seaports to storefronts is opening at the Port of Charleston as South Carolina’s maritime agency aims to boost its share of consumer-goods imports.
TradePort Logistics, which handles cargo for retailers like Walmart, will move into a nearly 200,000-square-foot warehouse next to the Wando Welch Terminal in Mount Pleasant next month.

Lt. Governor Duncan & Speaker Ralston Announce Appointments to Freight & Logistics Commission
Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and Speaker of the House David Ralston announced their appointees to the Georgia Freight & Logistics Commission. Created by House Resolution 37 in the 2019 legislative session, the Commission will study Georgia’s freight and logistics network and find ways to move freight more efficiently throughout Georgia spurring economic growth and job creation.
“Georgia’s economic prosperity has led to huge business and population growth,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “However, in many areas of our state, that growth has led to highway congestion. The Freight & Logistics Commission will be charged with studying how we can harness the logistics industry to provide transportation solutions to Georgia’s businesses and citizens. Transportation efficiency is critical to Georgia’s economic future and I’m excited to work with the Commission as well as Governor Kemp and Speaker Ralston to continue delivering results.”
…The logistics professionals appointed by the Lt. Governor include Rebecca Brewster, President and COO of the American Transportation Research Institute; George Powers, President and CEO of TradePort Logistics LLC.; and Stephanie Smith, Vice President of Supply Chain Development for The Home Depot.

It’s TradePort Logistics LLC, and the name of its principal should be familiar to anyone who knows the area’s maritime history.
Savannah native George Powers was building and operating warehouses near Georgia Port’s Garden City Terminal long before “logistics” became an industry buzzword.
In fact, Powers was in the warehousing business before most people – even locals – had any inkling Savannah’s sleepy Southern port was poised for an explosion of growth.

The two developments are expected to bring more than 400 full- and part-timejobs to the Savannah area, and serve a growing demand for logistics space.

Powers founded American Port Services in 1987, and took the company
from 50,000 square feet at its start to 13 million square feet with locations in
